Yes there is a lot of work but you should definately download the rest of Karl's books, Network Documentation Workbook, Network Migration Workbook and the Service Agreement book.
I needed a guide to to help me get clearer on what I was offering and how to present it to the client. The material in this book helped me do just that.
It contains invaluable advice on deciding what to offer, and how to communicate it to the client in a way that will increase the chances that the outcome will be successful. The information is broken down in a way that is very manageable, rather than overwhelming. I was a little nervous about the undertaking of putting together a package to present to a prospective client. It felt much more manageable and doable with this book as a guide. I bought the audio version of it to listen to in my car on my way to work, so I could repeat the message to myself.
It was with great anticipation that I bought the 3rd edition Kindle version, as well as the audio version of the 3rd edition. I read it, I listened to it, and was greatly disappointed to find it contained almost no new material, no new ideas.
But there wasn't any of that there. This isn't a bad book, it's just really almost completely the 2nd edition. I found nothing in here that was of any more use than the 2nd edition. A wasted download of a Kindle edition, a wasted audiobook. Even the woman who narrated the 2nd edition was a far better narrator than the guy who did the 3rd edition.
I'd ask for my money back if I could! Kindle Edition.
This is the book to take you from dabbling in managed services offerings to a full embrace of this method of service delivery. The book covers everything from designing a pricing model to the actual delivery of services. The new update adds so much to the book that it is worth a read even if you have read the 2nd edition.
And even if you are fully engaged in Managed Services delivery at this point, you are sure to pick up a nugget or two that makes then entire read worthwhile. To top it off, the lucid and concise prose and modern design of the book make for a quick read. I read the 2nd edition and began on the path to being an MSP following Karl's suggestions.
It was slow at first, however I didn't follow all his direction but still managed to sign a few Managed clients. I then read the 3rd edition as soon as it came out and as it was more relevant to today's tech I began putting those practices into place and actually following Karl's guidance and things have been going well since.
His procedures really do work.
So far in the last few months we have signed 7 Managed Services Clients, we are streamlining our processes, writing our service agreements btw, go download his other book Service Agreements , and have found a renewed interest in growing our business. By following the guidelines in this book I was able to convert most of my biggest clients to a managed services plan.
The book offers great advice and common pitfalls to avoid. The simple and concise step by step plan was easy to implement and has really helped to covert my roller coaster revenues to a stable predictable income stream.
